2002 “Making Sex Work Safe” Langkawi, Malaysia

The first “Making Sex Work Safe Asia Pacific” practical workshop took place in October 2002, with female, male and transgender sex worker participants from eight countries in the Asia Pacific region taking part.

Khartini Slamah and Andrew Hunter of APNSW facilitated the event, with technical support from Empower Foundation, Thailand.

Six performance based educational activities were developed, performed and filmed at the event, as well as several posters, condom packet designs and sculptures. The information materials produced were one of the most important outcomes of the workshop, as were the lessons learned that enabled the teaching methodology to be developed further.
